Ribiška družina Bistrica (rd Bistrica).

Founded in 1947, Ribiška družina Bistrica manages fishing waters in the upper Adriatic drainage of southwestern Slovenia. The club is responsible for a distinctive karst river system where surface waters disappear underground, creating a unique and sensitive salmonid habitat. RD Bistrica focuses on conservation-oriented management, habitat protection, and regulated sport fishing adapted to the fragile karst environment.

Regulations.

• Fly fishing only.
• Barbless hooks only.
• One artificial fly may be used.
• Certain stretches are designated Catch & Release only.

Fishing season.

• 1 April – 31 October.

Waters Managed by RD Bistrica.

RD Bistrica manages a small but highly distinctive set of waters centered around the Reka River system. These waters are characterized by clear karst flows, variable discharge, and strong ecological sensitivity. Fishing here is technical and best suited for experienced anglers.

• Reka River – The Reka is a karst river flowing toward the Adriatic Sea, famous for disappearing into the Škocjan Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the managed fishing stretch from Žabiče to the Škocjan Caves, the river supports primarily Marble Trout (Salmo marmoratus), which are native to the Adriatic basin. Due to historical stocking, some hybrid trout may still occur, but management aims to preserve the remaining marble trout lineage. The river is clear, structured, and highly technical, with fluctuating water levels typical of karst systems.
  

Licenses.

Fishing licenses for RD Bistrica waters are valid only for the specific river section and regime for which they are purchased. Licenses can be obtained online via ribiskekarte.si as well as through official RD Bistrica sales channels. Anglers must carry a valid fishing license and identification while fishing.
