Fishing Clubs in Slovenia (Ribiške Družine).

Slovenia’s rivers are managed by local fishing clubs known as Ribiške Družine (RDs). Each RD is responsible for the conservation, management, and regulation of fishing within its territory. These clubs issue permits, oversee restocking programs (often using native, locally adapted strains), and enforce rules to protect fragile freshwater ecosystems. At the national level, Slovenia’s freshwater angling clubs are represented by the Fishing Association of Slovenia (Ribiška zveza Slovenije – RZS), an umbrella non-governmental organization that brings together 64 freshwater fishing clubs across the country. RZS represents Slovenian fisheries interests, supports coordination and education, and engages at national and international level, but does not manage fishing waters directly.
Fishing in Slovenia is not allowed without a permit from the managing RD. Each club operates independently, and permits are specific to their waters.
